Individuals participating in a neuropsychological evaluation can expect the following structure of service delivery:
- An initial interview during which a history of the individual’s functioning is obtained (1 to 2 hours)
- Completion of a variety of questionnaires/rating scales by parents and teachers (if applicable)
- Two days of neuropsychological testing
- Testing length varies for each day depending upon performance, but is usually one full day (9am to 4pm), and an additional half day (9am to 12pm)
- Dr. Chok will select neuropsychological tests based upon the referral question; in addition, other tests may be added into the battery based upon observations and performance during the assessment
- It typically takes about 3 weeks for a report to be written. Reports are very detailed, and include personalized recommendations for next steps. Reports are typically around 25 pages in length.
- Once the report is finished, a feedback session is conducted with the patient, and/or his or her family. This meeting is typically 2 hours in length, so there is enough time to review all of the findings, and provide time for the patient to ask questions. Time is also spent going over recommendations and developing a plan of action for next steps in treatment.
