Dr. Chok provides a variety of neuropsychological services, including:
- Diagnostic evaluations (e.g., AD/HD, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, etc.)
- Identifying learning disorders (e.g., Dyslexia, processing speed deficits, etc.)
- Evaluating the need for accommodations on standardized tests
- Assessing individuals who suspect they may be experiencing Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) or dementia
Evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder include the use of the most well-researched and validated measures in the field, which are the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale – Second Edition (ADOS-2).
When evaluating individuals for cognitive impairment or possible dementia, Dr. Chok uses a wide variety of measures, many of which have alternate forms so that repeated assessments can be done in the future to gauge performance while minimizing practice effects that can occur with repeated assessment.
There are also many occasions when parents or individuals will indicate that there is something wrong but that they cannot detect what the issue is, even after undergoing previous assessment or treatment. A neuropsychological evaluation can provide diagnostic clarification and identify a recommended course of action in these circumstances.
Dr. Chok typically completes a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation which includes an assessment of cognitive skills (e.g., memory, attention, executive functioning), academic skills (e.g., reading, writing, math, oral language), and emotional functioning. Oftentimes there is an interplay between an individual’s cognitive performance and emotional functioning which is best understand by assessing these areas together during an evaluation. There are times when an individual seeking services is only interested in evaluating one area of performance and in these cases only one or two of the above-described components would be included in the evaluation (e.g., the individual seeking services is primarily interested in ruling in/out a particular diagnosis).
